The CBC met on October 4th in a regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with an announcement by Secretary/Treasurer Bob Tippeconnie that Ft. Sill is willing to cease the construction near Medicine Bluffs. Officers from the fort were meeting with the CBC later to discuss the agreement. This development is a huge success for the Comanche Nation as the Medicine Bluffs have been a sacred site for generations of Comanche and the construction would have decreased the ability of Comanche people to visit the site.
Chairman Wallace Coffey and Committeemember Lanny Asepermy announced that the Code Talkers Recognition Act passed the Senate on September 20th and is now on the President's desk for passage. Later a presentation will be made in Oklahoma to the tribes and the Code Talker descendants in the state. VIEW CLIP
Regular business got as far as one item on the agenda, an eligible enrollment list was passed. An ineligible list was tabled until the CBC could get clarification from Donna Wahnee, Enrollment Director, after Committeeman Clyde Narcomey indicated that he thought one name was on the list in error. As the Committee began to move to other items Glenetta White Feather asked for the floor and wanted to know why are people being dis-enrolled. She feels that it is wrong and there has to be a better way to go about the process. Discussion moved to the reason for the enrollment audit in the first place. VIEW CLIP
